After providing delicious treats to the Shetland region for years, Waas Bakery has sadly closed its doors. Its’ ever poular breads, rolls, pastries and cakes were supplied to local cafes, shops & supermarkets who will now be searching elsewhere for their sweet treat needs. The area is saddened by the loss of a much-loved member of the community.

Shetland West councillor Liz Peterson was quoted in the Shetland News saying  “The Waas bakery has been supplying shops and local businesses for many years, their products will be missed by many,” she said.

“I hope the staff manage to find other employment, and I would encourage any local business person to think about taking on the bakery. I hope someone buys it and carries on with the business.”

Waas Bakery was the trading name of Walls Bakery Limited which was incorporated on Shetland in 2003. The property where the bakery operated is owned by Saltness Ltd, incorporated in 2016. Both companies currently belong to the Gilardi family who took over the business in 2016.

The Bakery’s nine employees have regrettably been made redundant. The impact of the Covid pandemic, lack of investment capital combined with other cash flow pressures, has forced the bakery into administration.

Anyone interested in taking over this well established business or property is advised to reach out to Interpath Advisory as soon as possible.
